Meet WP Simple Pay

WP Simple Pay is the Stripe payments plugin for WordPress.

WP Simple Pay - best Stripe payment plugin for WordPress

It allows any WordPress website to accept one-time and recurring payments without building a full shopping cart or hiring a developer. Site owners create a payment form, connect it to Stripe, and start accepting payments, whether they are selling a product, collecting a donation, taking a deposit, setting up a subscription, or sending an invoice.

Because it runs on Stripe, WP Simple Pay supports the payment methods people use in their own countries, including Klarna, iDEAL, Pix, BACS Direct Debit, Alipay and dozens more.

The product was built to accept payments worldwide.

Its website, however, was entirely in English.

The Challenge: A Global Payments Product With an English-Only Website

Payments are one of the most local parts of running a business.

A business in Brazil may want to accept Pix. A company in the United Kingdom might need BACS Direct Debit, while customers elsewhere may expect Klarna, Alipay, or another payment method specific to their market.

WP Simple Pay supported all of them, with detailed documentation explaining how to set each one up.

But that information was only available in English.

That created a clear gap between what the product could do and who could easily discover it.

People searching for local payment methods are often searching in their own language. A business owner typing a question about Pix into Google in Brazilian Portuguese was less likely to discover WP Simple Pay, not because the answer did not exist, but because there was no Portuguese version of the page for Google to show them.

Across its product pages, payment method documentation, templates and guides, the WP Simple Pay website ran to 5.8 million words.

Translating it into one language would have been a substantial project. Translating it into eleven would normally have required an enormous translation and review process, followed by the ongoing work of maintaining every version whenever the English website changed.

The opportunity also extended beyond the three or four languages most companies prioritise. Markets such as Turkey, Poland, Romania and Sweden mattered too, but each would have been difficult to justify as a separate traditional localisation project.

WP Simple Pay needed a way to make the entire website available and searchable across all eleven languages without creating eleven times the work.

The Solution: One Website, Eleven Searchable Language Versions

WP Simple Pay connected its existing WordPress website to Universally and selected eleven languages:

  • Japanese
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Spanish
  • Chinese
  • Brazilian Portuguese
  • Turkish
  • Polish
  • Romanian
  • Swedish

No new content was written and no pages were rebuilt.

Universally translated and served all 5.8 million words across the website, including its product pages, payment method documentation, templates, and guides.

Context-aware AI handled the translations, helping the copy read naturally rather than like a word-for-word conversion.

But Universally did more than translate the words visitors could see.

It also set up the technical multilingual SEO needed to turn each translation into a complete, searchable version of the original page.

Every translated page received:

  • A dedicated, indexable URL
  • Translated page titles and meta descriptions
  • Hreflang tags connecting the different language versions
  • A clear language-specific page that Google could crawl and index
  • Automatic updates when the original English content changed

This gave Google eleven distinct language versions of WP Simple Pay’s existing content to discover, understand, and rank.

A guide to accepting Pix payments could become a Brazilian Portuguese page competing in Portuguese-language search results. A payment form guide could appear in Japanese for someone searching in Japanese, or in Turkish for someone searching in Turkish.

Instead of simply changing the words after someone arrived, Universally created complete translated pages that could be discovered through search in the first place.

The translations were served through an external layer rather than being written into the WordPress database, allowing WP Simple Pay to translate a website of this size without adding millions of words to WordPress or making the site heavier.

The team could launch eleven searchable language versions without involving developers, writing code or maintaining a separate website for every market.

The Results: Every Language Ranking Within Months

WP Simple Pay translation stats

All eleven languages went live in December 2025.

Before that, WP Simple Pay had no dedicated translated pages for people searching in Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish, Polish, Romanian, or Swedish.

Only a few months later, every single language was ranking on Google.

Not just the largest two or three languages.

All eleven were appearing in search results and creating new opportunities for people to discover WP Simple Pay in their own language.

Average positions ranged from 9.2 to 13.9 across the full set of translated pages, placing every language around the first page or the top of the second.

Polish reached an average position of 9.2, while Turkish averaged 9.6.

Brazilian Portuguese and Romanian both reached an average position of 10.1.

Italian, Japanese and French followed closely behind at 11.3, 11.4 and 11.5.

The consistency is what makes the result stand out.

Smaller language markets such as Polish, Romanian and Swedish performed alongside larger languages such as Japanese, Spanish and French, and in some cases ranked even higher.

These are markets that may never have justified individual translation projects. Through Universally, they became searchable extensions of the same website and began producing results within months.

All of it came from content that was already written, already published, and already sitting on the website.

More Value From 5.8 Million Existing Words

WP Simple Pay had already invested in creating extensive product pages, payment documentation, templates, and educational content.

Universally allowed that same investment to work across eleven additional languages.

One guide could explain how to accept payments in English, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish, Polish, Romanian, and Swedish.

One product page could compete for visibility across twelve different sets of search results.

One update to the original website could be reflected across every translated version without the team manually editing eleven separate pages.

Crucially, every translated page was not only readable by visitors. It was also supported by the technical multilingual SEO needed to help Google discover, index, and rank it.

WP Simple Pay did not need to create millions of words of new content to reach more markets.

It needed the content it had already created to work harder around the world.

The Reach This Opened Up

WP Simple Pay’s eleven translated languages represent an audience of more than 2.6 billion speakers worldwide:

  • Chinese: Roughly 1.1 billion speakers
  • Spanish: 559 million speakers across Spain, Latin America and the United States
  • French: 310 million speakers across Europe, Africa and the Americas
  • Brazilian Portuguese: Roughly 210 million speakers, anchored by Brazil
  • German: 135 million speakers across some of the highest-GDP markets in the EU
  • Japanese: 125 million speakers in one of the world’s most mature digital economies
  • Turkish: Roughly 90 million speakers across Turkey and beyond
  • Italian: 68 million speakers across Italy and beyond
  • Polish: Roughly 40 million speakers across Poland and beyond
  • Romanian: Roughly 25 million speakers across Romania and Moldova
  • Swedish: Roughly 13 million speakers across Sweden and Finland

For a payments product, that reach is not abstract.

Different markets use different payment methods, search using different terminology, and expect to find information in their own language.

WP Simple Pay could already support many of those local payment needs. Universally made it possible for more people to discover that capability and understand how to use it.

Every language represents another market in which WP Simple Pay can rank and another audience it can support without employing a translation team or maintaining a separate website.

In Their Words

“We’d talked about going multilingual for years and kept parking it because it sounded like a rebuild. Universally basically turned it into a setting, and a few months on we’ve got the site indexed across 11 languages pulling close to 200,000 impressions we weren’t getting before. It took a little while to build up as Google worked through the pages, but it’s real reach we didn’t have.”
