Meet Duplicator

Duplicator is one of the most trusted names in WordPress backup and migration. The plugin lets anyone create complete site backups, schedule them automatically, and move a WordPress site from one server to another with a simple two-step wizard.
It is built to be beginner-friendly, so business owners, bloggers, designers, and developers can all use it without writing a line of code.
The numbers back up the reputation. Duplicator powers more than 1.5 million WordPress professionals, holds a 4.9 out of 5 star rating with over 3,500 five-star reviews, and carries the WPBeginner Verified badge.
Led by President John Turner, the team sells the product through a WordPress site running on Easy Digital Downloads.
The Challenge: Translate the Site without Breaking its Speed
A meaningful share of Duplicator’s traffic was already coming from people who don’t read English as a first language.
The team wanted those visitors to get the same clear product pages, documentation, and checkout that English speakers get.
Just as important, they wanted the translated pages to actually rank in local search, not sit in a folder no one finds. That meant real multilingual SEO, not a browser-based widget that swaps words on the fly.
The blocker was the tooling. Duplicator had tried the usual WordPress translation plugins, WPML and TranslatePress, and both came with the same tax: they stored every translation inside the WordPress database.
That bloated the site and dragged down load times. For a store that runs its sales through Easy Digital Downloads, a slower site is a direct threat to checkout conversion. It was not a trade the team was willing to make, and it was not going to scale to six languages.
The Solution: Context-Aware AI Translation that Stays Off the Database
With Universally, the translations never touch the WordPress database. They live in an external layer and are served through a CDN, so Duplicator could translate the whole site without adding database weight or losing page speed.
That single architectural difference is what made the project possible.
From there, it was straightforward. Duplicator connected Universally and translated the entire site into all six languages with context-aware AI, so the copy reads naturally instead of word-for-word.
The Easy Digital Downloads product and checkout pages were translated right alongside the marketing and documentation pages. Multilingual SEO was handled automatically: hreflang tags, indexable URLs for each language, and translated metadata, so every version is set up to rank in its own market.
No developers, no code, and no separate localization project. The full site was translated and live in a single afternoon.
The Reach This Opened Up
Translating into six languages widens the audience Duplicator can serve in its own words. Counting total speakers of each language, Duplicator added that it is more than 1.4 billion people worldwide who can now read the site, the docs, and the checkout in their own language:
- Spanish: 559 million speakers across Spain, Latin America, and the United States
- French: 310 million speakers across Europe, Africa, and the Americas
- Brazilian Portuguese: roughly 210 million speakers, anchored by Brazil
- German: 135 million speakers across the highest-GDP markets in the EU
- Japanese: 125 million speakers in one of the world’s most mature digital economies
- Italian: 68 million speakers across Italy and beyond
Every language Duplicator turned on is a market its product pages can now rank in and a customer base it can support without a translator on staff.
In Their Words
“We needed to reach non-English audiences without doubling our content workload, and Universally delivered. The site was translated and is live across multiple languages in an afternoon, and the quality genuinely holds up. Huge win for our team.”
— John Turner, President, Duplicator
